The year 2007 is the 50th since the founding of the Kohnle Hartmetall-Werkzeug-Fabrik. This is reason enough to look back on an extraordinary success story of a company which was founded on October 1st, 1957 by Gerhard Kohnle. In 1957, not quite 27 years old, he had arrived in the Upper Bavarian town of Kolbermoor on his motorcycle from Baden-Wurttemberg. Following his vision and passion for tool production, this is where he found a business for the manufacture and repair of hard-metal tools. The lack of funds in these early days was more than compensated for by this entrepreneur‘s passion and his abilities as an all-rounder in his industry. The small company started with one sales representative. The production facility consisted of one lathe and seven self-built grinders. But the hard work and the commitment to quality found at the new company paid off. They quickly acquired satisfied customers amongst local carpenters, cabinet makers and small companies. The business had been launched. In 1959 Gerhard Kohnle was married. In the following year his son Siegfried Kohnle was born, since 1977 active in the company, since 1996 as a partner and, today, largely responsible for production and quality management in the company. The great success of Kohnle hard- metal circular saw blades necessitated an expansion of the production facility. In 1961, Gerhard Kohnle laid the cornerstone for the construction of today‘s production and administration building in Lohholz near Kolbermoor. What had started off in 1957 as a small business for the production of hard-metal tools had grown into a respected medium-size industrial operation at the time the new facility was occupied in 1963. Over a dozen employees now guaranteed reliable production, the highest quality standards and optimum service. However, the secret of Kohnle‘s success was in its passion for innovation. Kohnle gave the highest priority to the development of new products and the optimization of existing ones. To this day, numerous patent applications and continuous improvements have assured Kohnle the decisive quality lead in the market. In addition, Kohnle became especially popular due to its solutions for individual customer problems. And the range of products has grown from year to year: the hard-metal circular saw blades for wood were subsequently joined by those for working aluminum sections and for circular saw blades which make cuts splinter-free on both sides. In 1965, Kohnle presented the special class of circular saw blades for plastics at the trade fair in Hannover. The saw blade for two-side splinter-free cutting of melamine resin coated or bonded boards advanced from this point on to become the „Miracle Blade from Kolbermoor“. Continuous improvement, strict quality management and additional trade fair appearances both at home and abroad brought Kohnle international recognition. Growing demand again made new hiring and investment necessary. Soon Kohnle was able to produce fully automated machines and circular saw blades dimensioned up to 1,720 mm diameter for cutting rolled aluminum ingots and bolts. Then came circular saw blades for machining PVC, non-ferrous metals and saw blades for heavy nonferrous metals on slow-speed saw rigs. The first expansion of the production facility was in 1966. In 1972, the facility even doubled in size as new buildings were needed for administration and other purposes. And, in the 70s, the Kohnle Hartmetall-Werkzeug-Fabrik continued their road to success. In addition to circular saw blades for cutting steel and steel sections, Kohnle now developed its own panel raising cutters, counter profile cutters, and finally profile cutters for panel framed doors. From its very beginnings, Kohnle has been a family business, which is the reason for its special and intimate atmosphere which is what the company‘s customers and friends appreciate and love about Kohnle. Since 2004, the third generation has taken over the helm, personified by Gerhard Kohnle‘s grandson Michael, who today is the managing partner in marketing and sales. This is how Kohnle GmbH in its own unique way combines tradition and many years of experience with innovation and forward-looking thinking in one and the same company. Today, premium quality circular saw blades which guaranty maximum performance have made Kohnle into a brand name which stands for first-class hard-metal tools. „The Miracle Blade from Kolbermoor“ has convinced customersboth in Germany and beyond its borders. Gerhard Kohnle: „I think it is the successful combination of first- class quality, the expertise of our staff and our reliable service which our customers appreciated about us. Coming to Kolbermoor has been worthwhile.“ CompanyTelefon: +49 (0) 80 31 / 29 66-0 Telefax: +49 (0) 80 31 / 29 66-29 Email: info@kohnle.net |
